Wand Pocket Tutorial
by Jenny Jo
About the pocket:
Size: 12" deep, 4.5" wide (wide
enough to stick your hand in if something falls to the bottom.)
My wand is 13.5" long, but since it tends to sit diagonally
in the pocket, 12" is plenty.
Location: Inside left breast of the robe--the
perfect spot for a fast right-handed draw! I figured out where to
put it by holding the wand inside the robe while wearing it, trying
to find a place where it would "nestle in" and not poke
me or look strange. Even while the robe is fastened, it is easy
to reach in over the fastening and pull the wand out.
Type/Instructions: I made the pocket according
the
instructions for a wash welt pocket at vintagesewing.info, which
is one of my favorite resources. Note that you have to have access
to the back of the lining to make this kind of pocket--the best
thing would be to put in the pocket before you attach the lining
to the robe, but I just reached up through the hem, and that was
good enough. If your robe has the lining sewed to the outer fabric
at the hem, you won't be able to do this--there are simpler pockets
that you could do, though.
Pictures: It's kind of uneven because I'm
really sloppy at hand-sewing. :-p Also, these are my usual cheap
scanner pics--someday I will get my digital camera repaired, and
then you will all be so impressed.

The label: I made this graphic and printed
it out onto an iron-on transfer sheet. Then I transferred it onto
white fabric, and sewed it on. I have a nice men's suit jacket (Pierre
Cardin!) where the shop has their label sewed under the inside pocket
like this, and that's the look I'm immitating:

This was a pretty quick and fun project, and I think it came out
awesome. :-)
