Directions for Creating Quiddich Pads
by Eleanna
What you will need:
2 yards of 1 ½” cotton cord
1 yard of ¾” cotton cord.
½ yard of ½ “ cotton cord 2 skate knee pads
2 yards of “leather look” vinyl or leather in brown
or black
1/4 yard of yellow or beige vinyl
Hot glue gun
patience
1. Purchase a pair of skate knee pads. Try Garage Sales or Thrift
Stores. They can be cruddy looking but the part covering the knee
should not be cracked.
2. Cut the excess material out of the knee pads. Cut above and
below the plastic knee guard
3. Measure from the top of the knee to the instep.
4. Measure around the calf or largest part of the leg. Divide by
two and add 1 ¼”. You can make this measurement bigger
if you want the pad to cover more of the leg.
5. Create your quiddich pad leg pattern by measuring the length
of the leg to bottom of knee and the width around your calf. Add
an extra inch. (Sorry, this is not an exact science)
6. You now have a rectangle. Use pattern piece 1 to create the
instep. Also, you might want to try it on as your instep may not
be as high as my son’s.
Pattern Piece 1
7. Cut out four of the above pattern out of vinyl or leather (whatever
your machine will
sew).
8. Cut out a square of vinyl the same width as your leg pads. Using
hot glue, glue the
square to the plastic knee guard you cut out in #2 above.
9. Put two of the leg pads together. Sew approximately 5/8”
from the edge on the sides.
Next, sew four vertical lines as in the above pattern piece. They
must be at least 1 1/2” wide each to accommodate the 1 ½”
cotton cord that you will be using as stuffing.
10. Cut your 1 ½” cotton cord a little longer than
the pad you are going to stuff. You will
need to cut 4 of these.
11. Stuff the cotton cord into the 1 ½” wide pouches
you have made in you leg pad.
12. Once you have the cotton cord in you leg pad and you are satisfied
with the look, you
need to sew ¼” on the instep end to seal of the pad.
You can finish off with yellowish
or beige vinyl cut in 1/2” strips and apply using hot glue.
13. Sew the knee guard piece you created in #8 above to your leg
pad. You want to finish off you edges of the knee guard, either
zig zag or hot glue.
14. Try on the leg pad and measure the distance between the ends
of pad at the top of the knee, below the knee and at the ankle.
Add an inch to each of those measurements and that will be the length
of the straps.
15 Cut out 2 straps 1” wide of each of measurements you determined
in #14 above. Apply Velcro to each set of 3 straps. Sew the straps
to the pads
16 Make another pad the same way for the other leg and you are
finished with your leg pads!!!!

17. Using the following as a guide, create your Quiddich arm pad
pattern. You will need to measure from the elbow to the wrist for
the parallel pad part and from the wrist to the middle of the hand.
18. You will cut four of the arm pads and them together similar
to the directions for the leg pad. The only difference is taking
the measurement from your wrist to the fingers, the lines of stuffing
are perpendicular to the rest of the arm pad.
19. Remember to sew 5/8” from the edge of the arm part and
allow ¾” each for your pad pouches. I found it easier
to stuff the pouches first then sew across at the wrist. Create
your perpendicular pouches covering the hand about ½”
each.
20. Stuff the pouches in the arm pad. Finish off by sewing the
end by the fingers and by the elbow.
21. Similar to how you created straps for the leg pads, measure
the space between the end of pad at the wrist and just below the
elbow. Cut your straps, apply Velcro and you are ready!!
