Drafting an Underbust Corset Pattern

These are my instructions for drafting your own underbust corset. There are two very simmilar versions: type one - for those with a pouching tummy or a flat behind, and type two - for those with a small tummy but a large behind. I developed type two for my own use after I discovered that most drafting methods did not account for the large difference between my hips and my waist without skewing the corset's side seams far to the back and trying to flatten my butt as well as my stomach. I'm rather fond of my little booty, and the squishing and flattening was very uncomfortable and caused unsightly rolls where the flattened hips and butt protruded from under the corset, so I re-drafted until I found a method that would accomodate thede while still giving a good reduction and flattening my stomach.

This method doesn't work well for those with opposite measurements, however. I tried it on someone with less of a butt and a larger tummy pouch, and it actually emphasized her stomach - not the goal we wanted. To flatten a tummy, go with type one instead.

Both methods include three pages. The first is the measurements page. It tells you what measurements you need and how to take them. The second page is a calculations sheet. It is probably best if you print this out and fill in the blanks as you measure. When you're done, get out a calculator and follw the instructions, filling in the blanks. The third page will tell you how to draft the corset using the numbers from the calculations sheet. Be sure to have a large sheet of paper and plenty of room. A ruler and a french curve will help, too.
